Chris Sale, White Sox ace, returns to the mount after a six day break,
he started the All-Star Game for the American League on Tuesday in San
Diego. The five-time All-Star holds the Major League lead with 14
victories. He also ranks in the Top 5 in the AL in strikeouts (123),
WHIP (1.04) and average against (.225). Sale stands 4-0 with a 2.66 ERA
lifetime against the Mariners, fanning 54 in 40 2/3 innings.
The Mariners (46-46) scored just two runs over the final two games of
the Houston series, and they have pretty much played their way out of
contention in the American League West after a promising first two
months of the season. Seattle's offense is only part of the problem as
the Mariners' pitching rotation continues to battle injuries. Scheduled
Monday starter Wade LeBlanc has done his part to fill in, but he is
coming off a rough outing his last time out. LeBlanc's rotation spot
appears tenuous, as Felix Hernandez is coming off a two-month disabled
list stint on Wednesday to face the White Sox. LeBlanc has never started
against the White Sox.
Wager506.com has Chicago WS -1 1/2 on the full game and -1/2 on the first 5 innings with a -105 line both of them at this time.
