The Royals go with Ian Kennedy (6-7, 4.04 ERA), who pitched well in his
last start despite the Royals losing 3-4 in Philadelphia. Kennedy
allowed three runs on six hits over five innings, striking out eight and
walking three, but he took the loss. The 31-year-old right-hander has
faced the Blue Jays just once – way back in 2007 in the third start of
his career – where he took a no-decision.
The Blue Jays counter with Marcus Stroman (6-4, 5.08 ERA), who gave up a
single run on five hits over 6.2 innings, striking out six and walking
one in a 1-2 loss to Cleveland. Stroman is familiar with Kansas City. He
made his first career start against the Royals in May 2014, giving up a
run on five hits with six strikeouts in a 12-2 win. He struggled
against Kansas City in an 11-8 win in the 2015 postseason, giving up
four runs on 11 hits in 6.1 innings.
