How to Bet On Sports- Betting the NBA’s Second Half
This past Friday marked the start of the NBA’s annual All-Star break before action resumes this Thursday night. The extended break is supposed to symbolize the halfway point of the regular season, but the reality is that all 30 teams have played basically 70 percent of their 82-game schedule.
All this simply means is that NBA bettors have more than enough stats, facts and betting trends on the books when it comes to handicapping any upcoming matchups. The one caveat to that theory is the recent flurry of player movement right before the NBA’s trade deadline earlier this month.
Most times this passes with little fanfare, but led by the wheeling and dealing Cleveland Cavaliers, the makeup of more than a few teams has changed as a result of these moves.

Cleveland went into the break with a four-game winning streak with all the new faces together for the last two wins. As a bettor, I would still put the Cavaliers on the backburner for the next few weeks to see how this team really gels.
Do not forget that Cleveland is still 34-22 straight-up with a costly 18-37-1 record against the spread. This includes a dismal 6-20-1 ATS record at home.
One of the other interesting storylines coming off the break is the battle for the top spot in the Western Conference. For the past few seasons it has been a given that Golden State would claim the No. 1 seed in the standings on its way to the NBA Finals out of the West.
Houston has decided to mount a serious challenge and with a half-game lead in the standings at a NBA-best 44-13, it already owns a tiebreaker against the Warriors with a 2-1 series win in the regular season. These two will not face each other again until the postseason.
Young teams on the move should make things interesting over the next two months of regular season play. Minnesota could be one of the most exciting teams in the West sitting in a tie with San Antonio for third place, but are the Timberwolves ready to seriously compete with the upper echelon of this conference?
Philadelphia is a fun team to watch with the likes of Joel Embiid and Ben Simons leading the turnaround this season at 30-25, but how far can these two young guns carry things?
