Miami Heat Face the Skidding Hawks
The Atlanta Hawks and the Miami Heat kick off a Southeast Division home-and-home series on Tuesday night. The game has a slated 7:30 p.m. tip at American Airlines Arena. VietBet has opened the Heat as 10.5-point home favorites with the total set at 206.5. The line is now the Heat -12.5 and the total is at 207.
The Hawks come into this Tuesday’s contest with just their second straight-up win in their last 13 games. They barely got by past division rival Orlando 94-88 on Sunday. They were a slight 1.5-point home favorites with VietBet.
They are last the Eastern Conference standings at 22-55 with. The Hawks have only six SU road victories in 38 of those games. Atlanta has gone 2-5-1 against the spread in its last eight road games.
Atlanta got a strong effort from its bench on Sunday. They were led by Tyler Dorsey’s team-high 19 points. Dennis Schroder has been the team’s leading scorer this season with 19.4 points per game. He is officially done for the year with an ankle injury. That cannot be good news for a team that is 23rd in the NBA in scoring with an average of 103.4 PPG.
Miami Heat Battling for Playoff Spot
Miami had a chance to clinch a playoff spot on Saturday night against Brooklyn. They came up one point short in overtime with a 110-109 loss as an eight-point favorite. This snapped a SU eight-game winning streak on its home court.
Miami was 7-1 ATS on the VietBet closing line over that same span. The total went OVER 213.5 points against the Nets and it has gone OVER or ended as a PUSH in seven of the Heat’s last 11 games.
Goran Dragic has been Miami’s leading scorer this season with 17.4 points per game. That is good on a team that is ranked 24th in the NBA in points scored (103.3). He ended Saturday’s game with a team-high 18 points. Dragic went 7-for-17 from the field.
After that loss, center Hassen Whiteside went on a rant about playing time. This was after remaining on the bench for the forth quarter and overtime. He ended the night with 14 points and six rebounds.
The Heat could be considered the best of the rest in East. They would have a very short shelf life in postseason play. While current form dictates an early exit in the opening round. I would still pencil in Miami for a pair of victories in this home-and-home series. That is both SU and ATS starting Tuesday night at home against the worst team in the conference.
