Tennis Odds: Gulbis Braces for French Open Semifinal Against Djokovic

Betting on the 2014 French OPen

Consecutive victories over high profile opponents have 25-year-old
Ernests Gulbis on the mind of the tennis betting community heading into
the final two rounds of French Open action. The semifinalist will face
off against his toughest challenge yet in Novak Djokovic.

Fresh off of back-to-back wins over Roger Federer and Tomas Berdych –
the latter in three straight sets – Gulbis has become somewhat of a
quiet force in the late stages of the Roland Garros tournament.

His 20/1 odds of winning the French Open pale in comparison to 10/11
mark, but do a fine job of emphasizing the Latvian’s unexpected run to
the penultimate match.

After trailing by a set against Federer in the fourth round, Gulbis
rallied for and improbable victory against the living legend and he
hasn’t looked back since.

While knocking off the No. 4-ranked Federer and then No.6-ranked
Berdych is impressive, however, there’s a reason why Djokovic slides in
at No. 2. Between Djokovic and No. 1 Rafael Nadal, there remains plenty
that could go wrong in Gulbis’ pursuit of yet another upset.

Ranked No. 17, and listed as the 18th seed in the French Open
bracket, Gulbis has come out of nowhere as an intriguing tennis betting
option. There’s no guaranteeing that his luck will continue in the final
rounds at Roland Garros, but it’s something we’re excited to see.

Tennis Betting: French Open King Nadal Faces Challenges in 2014

Betting on the 2014 French OPen

While Rafael Nadal’s stranglehold on clay surface success begins to
ease up, a hungry field of ATP competitors is ready and waiting to take
his place on the throne. Don’t get us wrong, Rafa remains the tennis
betting favorite with 5/4 odds of winning the French Open, but he has
had some vulnerabilities exploited in 2014 already.

Having most recently fallen to chief rival Novak Djokovic at the
Italian Open earlier this month, Nadal will need to scramble if he
intends on reestablishing himself as the overwhelming favorite whenever
the conversation turns to clay. He’s looked effective on clay this
season, sure, but he’s also looking uncharacteristically mortal.

At the French Open he’ll face stiff competition from not only
Djokovic, but also less heralded tennis betting options like Stanislas
Wawrinka, Kei Nishikori and Grigor Dimitrov. Is the Big Four Era on the
verge of collapse?

Could those relatively new names, or perhaps even Nadal’s fellow ATP
veterans like Roger Federer, Andy Murray or countryman David Ferrer
spoil his bid for a ninth win at Roland Garros in the 10 seasons?

It’s time to find out.
