Tennis Odds: Murray Favored to Win First Citi Open - Handicappers Hideaway
Tennis Odds: Murray Favored to Win First Citi Open
Andy Murray has already won three ATP tournaments this year, but he has
yet to break through on the hard court. That could all change this week
in Washington. Murray goes into the 2015 Citi Cup as the +135 favorite
to win outright, followed by Kei Nishikori (+300) and Marin Cilic
(+800).

Murray, currently ranked No. 3 in the world in men’s singles, is making
his first appearance in DC since 2006, when he lost to Arnaud Clément in
the finals. He’ll use the Citi Cup as a launching pad for his run to
the 2015 US Open, which starts August 31 at Flushing Meadows. Murray is
353-100 lifetime (77.9%) on hard courts and 21-5 this year.
World’s No. 5 Nishikori is making his return after pulling out of the
Wimbledon Championships with a leg injury. He’s also 21-5 on the hard
court this year, including a tournament win at the Memphis Open, and
will be playing Washington for the first time since 2007. Cilic, the
reigning US Open champion, is ranked No. 8 and has played just one
hard-court match this year (losing to Juan Monaco at Indian Wells) after
missing over two months with a shoulder injury.

Tennis Odds: Djokovic Survives, Advances in Miami - Handicappers Hideaway
Tennis Odds: Djokovic Survives, Advances in Miami
It took a little more effort than expected, but World’s No. 1 Novak
Djokovic is heading into the quarterfinals at the Miami Open. Djokovic
was the 4/7 favorite to win the title heading into Tuesday’s
fourth-round matchup against Alexandr Dolgopolov, but the feisty
Ukrainian took the first set and nearly the second before melting down
and losing the third 6-0. Dolgopolov was a +1200 to win that match.

Now that Djokovic has cleared that hurdle, he is on to the next round,
where he’ll face World’s No. 8 David Ferrer. The Spaniard was a 28/1
outsider to win the Miami Open going into his fourth-round match against
Gilles Simon (+240), which he won handily in straight sets. Originally
a clay-court specialist, Ferrer has made strides on the hardcourt, but
is still 13-5 lifetime versus Djokovic. That includes each of their
last seven matches dating back to 2012.
Meanwhile, No. 4 Andy Murray survived his fourth-round matchup against
Kevin Anderson (+500) to move onto the quarterfinal round. Murray was
the second favorite at 3/1 to win the Miami Open before facing Anderson,
and next up is Dominic Thiem, the No. 52-ranked Austrian, who lost his
only other match against Murray at last year’s Rotterdam Open.

Tennis Odds: Serena Williams Thriving at Indian Wells - Handicappers Hideaway
With four rounds in the books at Indian Wells, not only is No. 1 seed
Serena Williams still alive, but her path to the title has gotten
considerably easier. While Williams (–1000) was able to fend off Sloane
Stephens in three sets to advance to the quarterfinals, No. 2 Maria
Sharapova (–650) fell to the defending champion, Flavia Pennetta.

This definitely opens things up for Williams – not that she needs much
help. Going into her match with Stephens, the World’s No. 1 was listed
at 11/10 to win her first appearance at Indian Wells since 2001.
Sharapova was the clear second favorite at 5/1, ahead of No. 3 seed
Simona Halep at 7/1. Halep won her fourth-round match in straight sets
over Karolina Pliskova to cash in at –220.
Williams will be facing Timea Bacsinszky in the quarterfinals on
Wednesday, with their match not due to begin until 10:00 PM ET at the
earliest. Bacsinszky, from Switzerland, is the No. 26-ranked women’s
tennis player in the world. She won the WTA event earlier this month in
Monterrey, one week after claiming victory in Acapulco. But Williams
won their only previous match back in 2010 in Rome.
