Super Bowl Odds Say Patriots, But Giants Hold Momentum

The New England Patriots hold the slight advantage over the New York Giants when it comes to the Super Bowl betting line, but it's just as important to consider how NFL oddsmakers initially settled on the -3 spread. Though the Pats have been dominant for much of 2011-12, New York won clout with their victory over the Green Bay Packers.

The truth is, although the Patriots have the power of Tom Brady and three Super Bowl victories under their belts already, the Giants have emerged as a force of note in the NFC. For Eli Manning and company the fruitful postseason started with a trouncing of the Atlanta Falcons on Wild Card Weekend, the momentum of which may or may not have been a deciding factor in their performance the next time out.

Regardless of New York's win over Atlanta, however, what they've been most prized for this winter is their dismissing of Aaron Rodgers and reigning champion Green Bay. Can Manning throw another impressive game under the Super Bowl spotlight?

On the other side of the ball the Patriots will kick-off against the Giants with a slightly less impressive, though through no fault of their own. After sitting out of the first game of the postseason with a bye the Pats got to work disposing of Tim Tebow and the Denver Broncos.

Will New England have gleaned more from their recent victory over the Baltimore Ravens in the AFC Championship than the Giants did from the San Francisco 49ers? Weigh in on the NFL betting line if you think you know how it will all unfold.

The New York Giants managed to hold on in the NFC Championship Game Sunday night, squeezing past the tough San Francisco 49ers and on into the Super Bowl. It may have taken overtime to do it, but the narrow victory pays fitting tribute to the looming rematch of 2008's title game.

Monday Night Football Betting Previews- Kansas City Chiefs vs. New England Patriots

Point spread: New England -14.5

Over/Under: 46.5

The Kansas City Chiefs will try and snap a two-game skid this Monday night when they invade Gillette Stadium to tangle with the AFC East-leading New England Patriots. Game time is set for 8:30 p.m. (ET) and it will be broadcast nationally on ESPN.

It is hard to know for sure what direction Kansas City's roller-coaster season will go next after a three-game losing streak to start the season, a four-game winning streak to get it back into contention, and losses in its last two games that has the team 4-5 straight-up (5-4 against the spread) and one game in back of Oakland in the AFC West.

Further down would be expected direction with a possible season-ending injury to quarterback Matt Cassel. The reins have been turned over to Tyler Palko, who will be making his first NFL start this Monday night. He takes over an offense that has already been struggling to put points on the board with an average of just 15.7 points a game. This has had a direct impact on the total, which has stayed ?under? in six of the Chiefs nine games.

New England's season has spiked back up after a rare two-game skid of its own with a dominating 37-16 victory over the Jets last Sunday as a 2.5-point road underdog. It is now 6-3 SU (5-4 ATS) and clinging to a one-game lead over New York and Buffalo in the division. The total has gone "over" in five of its first nine games.

The Patriots' offense has had little problem finding the end zone this season with an average of 28.8 points a game, but their defense remains one of the softest in the NFL. It is giving-up a league-worst 412 total yards a game. It is ranked last against the pass, but ninth against the run.

The Chiefs are 5-2 ATS in their last seven games and the total has stayed "under" in their last four games against the AFC.

The Patriots are 8-3 ATS in their last 11 games against the AFC. The total has gone "over" in eight of their last 10 games as home favorites.

The spread on this game as been climbing all week long, but it is doubtful it will go high enough to for Kansas City to cover against the high-flying Patriots.

The Pick: New England 34 Kansas City 13

Recharged Cowboys Face Dominant Patriots on NFL Odds Board

A cross-conference tilt will pit two of the game?s highest profile quarterbacks against each other this Sunday, as the New England Patriots host the Dallas Cowboys as favorites on the NFL odds board.

Fresh off a pair of wins, and with a 4-1 record, it's hard not to lean towards Tom Brady and the Pats over a Cowboys team struggling to keep Tony Romo on the field. Unless the bye week in Week 5 was enough to nurse the hobbled quarterback completely back to health, we may see some similar themes continue in Week 6.

According to Bodog?s online sportsbook, the Cowboys have just 30/1 odds of winning the Super Bowl. Had it not been for the constant concern over the man under center, or Dallas' early sub-par record against less-than-impressive opponents, the mark might be slightly higher, but even when the Cowboys have won, it hasn't been convincing.

In Dallas' two victories (over San Francisco and Washington), they held a combined five-point advantage (with a net point differential of -2 through Week 5), meanwhile, the Patriots have rattled off four touchdown-or-more victories in five contest for a point differential of 46. There's a reason they have 4/1 odds on the NFL futures board while Dallas struggles to stay relevant.

If the Cowboys can somehow solve Brady while successfully keeping Romo in one piece, a victory could essentially redefine their season - especially in the unpredictable NFC East where even the Philadelphia Eagles are 1-4.

NFL Betting Preview - New England Patriots vs. Miami Dolphins

Point spread: New England -7

Over/Under: 45.5

The New England Patriots kick-off their regular season against a familiar opponent when they tangle with the Miami Dolphins this Monday night at Sun Life Stadium in this AFC East matchup. The game is slated to get underway at 7 p.m. (ET) and it will be broadcast nationally on ESPN.

New England raced to an NFL-best 14-2 record last season only to lose to its bitter rival, the Jets, 28-21 as 9.5-point home favorite in the Divisional Round of the playoffs. The Patriots have been instilled by Bodog as the favorites to win the Super Bowl this season at 11/2.

Quarterback Tom Brady appeared to be in mid-season form in limited play in the preseason and has the majority of the weapons back from an offense that finished the season ranked eighth in the NFL in total yards per game and first in points with an average of 32.4 a game. Wes Welker and Deion Branch will once again anchor the receiving corps, but New England added Chad Ochocinco as an added twist to the passing game.

Miami?s miraculous 11-5 record and AFC East title in 2008 must seem like a faded memory to fourth-year head coach Tony Sparano after his team posted back-to-back 7-9 seasons. An even bigger issue for this game was the Dolphins dismal performance at home last season, where they went just 1-7 SU.

The much maligned Chad Henne will get the start at quarterback on Monday night for Miami. Henne completed 61.4 percent of his throws in 2010 for 3,301 yards and 15 touchdowns, but he is better known for his 19 interceptions and inconsistent play. The addition of Reggie Bush catching balls out of the backfield will help, but the Dolphins will have to find a way to improve upon the 17.1 points a game they averaged last year, which ranked them 30th in the league.

Head-to-head, the Patriots have won seven of the last 10 games SU. They outscored Miami 79-21 in the two games last season, easily covering the spread in each. The road team is 6-2 ATS in the last eight meetings and the total has gone ?over? in four of the last six games between the two.

Count on Brady to come out firing on Monday in an effort to put this one away early. The Dolphins are just too outmatched in offensive fire power to stand toe-to-toe with this team.

The Pick: New England 34 Miami 13
