There’s
no love lost between the Cincinnati Bengals and the Pittsburgh Steelers,
a pair of AFC North rivals vying for an early leg up in the division
race. Their matchup in Pittsburgh highlights the Week 2 card. Oddsmakers
have the Steelers as 3-point favorites and the total is sitting at
48.5.

The
Bengals (1-0) edged the New York Jets 23-22 on the road in their opening
game, led by the duo of Andy Dalton and AJ Green. Dalton was sacked
seven times and still passed for 366 yards and a score, which went to
Green. Green had 12 catches for 180 yards and torched the Jets' Darrelle
Revis all day long.

It's a
short week for the Steelers (1-0), who routed Washington 38-16 on the
road on Monday Night Football. Ben Roethlisberger threw for 300 yards
and three touchdowns – two to Antonio Brown, who had eight receptions
for 126 yards. DeAngelo Williams also ran for 143 yards and two
touchdowns for the Steelers.

The
Steelers have won four of their last five against the Bengals overall
and 15 of their last 24 at home with Cincinnati. However, the Bengals
have covered the spread in 12 of their last 17 road games.

The charge for Super Bowl 51 starts with more drama and controversy - Handicappers Hideaway

"Lombardi Super Bowl Trophy" (CC BY 2.0) by EDrost88

A February appointment in Houston is the goal for the 32 NFL teams about
to embark on the charge towards Super Bowl 51. Another season is upon
us and the gloves are already off as drama and controversy continue to
make the NFL compelling viewing across the globe.

Super Bowl 50 winners Denver Broncos opened their 2016 campaign with a
re-run of their victory over the Carolina Panthers last February. The
season opener at the Broncos’ Mile High Stadium had a dramatic climax,
after two touchdowns from running back C.J. Anderson gave Denver a
narrow lead. Graham Gano landed one field goal to bring the Panthers
within a point, but crucially missed another, allowing the Broncos to
hold on for a 21-20 victory, as reported by the BBC.

Despite their opening victory, the Broncos aren’t expected to retain
their crown, with star quarterback Peyton Manning having retired to
severely weaken their team. Meanwhile the Panthers are tipped to be
contenders again, with 2015 Most Valuable Player Cam Newton determined
to go one better and avenge their surprise showpiece defeat last
February.

Jostling for the favorites’ position in the Super Bowl odds
are the Seattle Seahawks, who have remained consistent since their 2014
victory. The Green Bay Packers are also being hotly tipped, and if the
Pittsburgh Steelers can overcome suspensions to some key players they
could also cause a stir. Dark horses for the Super Bowl crown are the
Arizona Cardinals, and what a story it would be if the up-and-coming
Houston Texans could steal the crown in February on home turf?

"Tom Brady" (CC BY-SA 2.0) by Keith Allison

Controversy has overshadowed the NFL’s off-season again, however,
ensuring that even without any footballs being kicked, thrown or caught,
the game is never out of the headlines. New England Patriots
quarterback Tom Brady, the game’s most celebrated player with four Super
Bowl rings, has finally accepted his four-game ban, which takes effect
from the first game of this season. The ban has been hanging over Brady
since the infamous January 18th 2015 play-off game with
Indianapolis Colts, in which he was implicated as playing a part in
Deflategate. 39-year-old Brady has fought the ban ever since but, as finally gave up in July and accepted his ban. If the Patriots can overcome this, they are likely to be challenging again.

Further furor has been caused by San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin
Kaepernick when he refused to stand for the US national anthem before
pre-season games. In an act of defiance against racial tensions in the
USA, Kaepernick has split opinion, but his kneeling stance was copied by
Broncos’ linebacker Brandon Marshall in the season’s opening game, so
the controversy isn’t going away soon. Personalities continue to
dominate though, and New York Giants’ wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr
will be looking to maintain his blossoming reputation, but the
23-year-old has spent much of the off-season enjoying the fame of mixing
with Europe’s top soccer stars as he prepares to undertake his third
NFL season.

The Pittsburgh Steelers and the Washington Redskins will be battling in
the first of two Monday Night Football gamest at Fed-Ex Field. The NFL
has learned to maximize it's exposure by having two MNF games to open
the season for the last few years. As Asinine as it seems to fans on the
East Coast who can't stay up to watch the late game. The early game
should be a good match up as the Skins' should be much improved in 2016.

Oddsmakers currently have the Steelers listed as 3-point favorites versus the Redskins, while the game's total is sitting at 49½.

In their last action, Washington was a 35-18 loser at home against the
Green Bay Packers. They failed to cover the -2-point spread as
favorites, while the combined score (53) was profitable news for OVER
bettors.

Last time out for Pittsburgh, they were a 23-16 loser as they battled
the Denver Broncos on the road. The Steelers earned a push in the match
as a +7-point underdog, while 39 combined points moved the game UNDER
for totals bettors.

Pittsburgh:

Team record: 11-7 SU,8-5-5 ATS

Pittsburgh is 1-1-3 ATS in its last 5 games

NFL Preseason Week 2 Preview & Free Pick- Philadelphia at Pittsburgh - Handicappers Hideaway

Pennsylvania bragging rights will be on the line this Thursday night at
Heinz Field when the Philadelphia Eagles head west on the PA Turnpike to
face the Pittsburgh Steelers in the preseason Week 2 matchup. BetAnySports has opened Pittsburgh as a 3.5-point home favorite and the betting line for the total has been set at 41.

The Eagles started their preseason on a winning note with a 17-9 victory
against Tampa Bay as three-point home favorites. The total stayed UNDER
BetAnySports’ closing 37-point line in that game. Going back to last
preseason, they are now 4-1 both straight-up and against the spread in
games that do not count in the standings. Unfortunately, they are coming
off a SU 7-9 record last season in the games that did count.

Philadelphia moved up to No. 2 in this year’s draft to select
quarterback Carson Wentz, but he will be watching this game from the
sidelines with a rib injury. That means that Sam Bradford and Chase
Daniel should see more playing time than expected against the Steelers.
These two put the ball up a combined 11 times against the Buccaneers
with five completions for 18 yards. The Eagles featured Kenjon Barner in
the running game with seven carries for 35 yards, but look for starting
running back Ryan Mathews to see more playing time on Thursday night.

The Steelers lost their preseason opener to Detroit 30-17 as three-point
home favorites, but they did hold a 14-13 lead at the half. Pittsburgh
has been a tough team to bet on in the preseason lately with a 1-5
record both SU and ATS in its last six tries. The total has gone OVER in
four of those six games after going OVER BetAnySports’ closing 35-point
line against the Lions.

Ben Roethlisberger was out of the lineup against Detroit along with
running backs’ Le’Veon Bell and DeAngelo Williams. How much playing time
this trio gets on Thursday night remains to be seen? Landry Jones
completed 6-of-12 passes for 55 yards and a score in Week 1 and Daryl
Richardson added another 44 yards on the ground on 11 carries. Also out
of the lineup against the Lions was All-Pro wide receiver Antonio Brown
and in his absence Darrius Heyward Bey caught a 29-yard touchdown pass
as one of the highlights of the night.

Both team’s starters should once again be very limited in their playing
time this Thursday night, so I am giving the slight edge to Philadelphia
in this matchup with BetAnySports
3.5 points. New Eagles’ head coach Doug Pederson may be just a bit more
concerned with the final tally on the scoreboard then Pittsburgh’s
veteran head coach Mike Tomlin.

BetAnySports’ NFL Pick of the Week- Week 2: Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Baltimore Ravens – Thursday, Sept.11

Betting on Ravens NFL Football

Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Baltimore Ravens – Thursday, Sept.11

It is only Week 2 of the new NFL regular season and the Baltimore
Ravens could be facing a must-win situation this Thursday night when
they play host to the Pittsburgh Steelers in a classic AFC North rivalry
game. BetAnySports
has opened the Steelers as slight 2.5-point road underdogs on its
opening NFL betting odds and the total for the game has been set at 44.

Pittsburgh appeared to be cruising to an easy victory against
Cleveland this past Sunday as a 5.5-point home favorite in its season
opener, but it had to eventually sweat-out a 30-27 win that went right
down to the wire. The total easily went OVER the 41.5-point closing line
and it has now gone OVER in five of the Steelers last six games.

Ben Roethlisberger passed for 365 yards while completing 23-of-34
attempts and running back Le’Veon Bell added another 109 yards and a
score on the ground on 21 carries. The big question mark heading into
Thursday’s matchup is which Pittsburgh defense is going to show up? The
one that held the Browns to three points in the first half or the one
that gave-up 24 points in the final two quarters.

Baltimore got off to a painfully slow start in its 23-16 loss to
Cincinnati on opening day. It closed as a one-point favorite at home and
the total stayed UNDER the 43.5-point line. After falling behind 15-0
on five Bengals’ field goals, the Ravens battled back to a one-point
lead only to let it slip away on a 77-yard touchdown throw from Andy
Dalton to AJ Green.

Ravens’ quarterback Joe Flacco put the ball up 62 times and he
completed 35 passes for 345 yards and a score on an 80-yard pass play to
Steve Smith. Baltimore’s Justin Forsett added 70 yards on the ground on
11 carries including a 13-yard run for a touchdown early in the second
half to finally put his team on the board.

When you think of this rivalry in the past, you would probably expect
another grinder that ends with both teams struggling to score points,
but given what we saw from each team’s quarterback as well as its
defense, I am going OVER BetAnySports’ 44-point total line as my
official pick in this game.

NFL Odds: Broncos Host Steelers in AFC Wild Card Battle

It's almost not fair that the Pittsburgh Steelers have to hit the road for their Wild Card weekend game with the Denver Broncos. After all, Pittsburgh was 12-4 to Denver's 8-8, but that?s the situation they find themselves in this weekend in NFL playoff action.

Get your NFL odds for the playoffs with Bovada.

No team in the NFL allowed fewer total yards or passing yards than the Steelers, which, combined with Tim Tebow's below-average passing arm, virtually eliminates Denver's aerial game. But that doesn't mean Tebow won't rush for 100-plus yards. Tebow led his team with six rushing touchdowns - the same team that's No. 1 in the NFL on the ground.

On the other side of the ball, Ben Roethlisberger is angling for a return to the Super Bowl, which he and the Steelers won in 2005 and 2008. Big Ben passed for 4,077 yards and 21 touchdowns this season, although his 70 rushing yards pale in comparison to Tebow's 660.

It's experience vs. excitement. Is it crunch time, or is it Tebow Time? Head over to the Bovada sportsbook and you decide.

NFL Odds: Steelers Battle for AFC North Supremacy

Caught up in a raging battle for the AFC North Division lead, the 9-3 Pittsburgh Steelers will welcome the opportunity to pry a win away from the Cleveland Browns on Thursday. They currently share the top spot with rival Baltimore.

Get your NFL odds for the looming playoff hunt with Bodog.

Although the Steelers have already yielded the playoff tie-breaker to the Ravens, they can avoid disappointment at the end of the season by finishing with a distinctly better record. Such playoff implications are what make games like the one this week some of the most intriguing on the NFL betting board.

The Browns may not have the opportunity to climb back into the playoff picture in time, but aren't to be taken lightly. If Ben Roethlisberger and Mike Tomlin can instill a sense of urgency in Pittsburgh, though, then a win is well within reach.

Even though the Steelers have seen their odds of winning the Super Bowl fluctuate this season, they've emerged as the consistent threat fans expected them to be, even after a disastrous Week 1 suggested that there may be a power shift brewing in the AFC North.

Now, as the season reaches maturity Pittsburgh looks to be as big of a force on the NFL odds board as anyone.

SUPER BOWL XLV: Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Green Bay Packers (-3) (44 ½) 6:30 PM EST

By Joe Gavazzi Winning Sports Advice

Our late-phone service enters the Super Bowl on a run of 13-5 ATS and a perfect 7-0 ATS on most recent selections rated 3% or higher. That includes a pair of 5% winners in the last 2 weeks of play.

For the first time ever the Super Bowl will feature the 2 best scoring defenses in the league. That is no surprise because of the masterful minds that are responsible for these units. DC Capers has run the Green Bay defense for the last 2 years, switching them to the 3-4 alignment. His ties to the Steelers date to the early 90?s when, as head man of the Steelers defense, he worked in conjunction with current Pittsburgh DC Lebeau to develop this defensive front and its attendant blitz packages. Lebeau has gone on to be inducted into the Hall of Fame and create his own legend as head man in charge of the Steelers defense. The offenses are lead by a pair of signal callers that most would consider to be among the Top 5 in the league. Both Roethlisberger and Rodgers have had outstanding seasons in leading their teams to the Super Bowl.

When Green Bay has the ball:

The emergence of RB Starks has led to a recent improvement in the Green Bay running game, which averaged only 100 RYPG on 3.8 YPR. Nonetheless, cannot figure them to have success against the Top ranked Pittsburgh rush defense that allows just 63 RYPG on 3.0 YPR. That leaves Green Bay success on the arm of QB Rodgers. If the Steelers have a weak link it?s their pass secondary, which although it allows 214 PYPG, gives up only 5.8 DYPA. The question for Green Bay is whether they will be able to protect Rodgers from the fierce Steelers? blitz, which is expected to come early and often to set the tone and mindset of QB Rodgers for the game.

When Pittsburgh has the ball:

Steelers have a solid, if not spectacular, running game keyed by RB Mendenhall who has come into his own this season. They should have success overland vs. a Green Bay rush defense that allowed 4.6 YPR in the regular season. Major question mark in this regard is the ability of the OL to open holes in the face of season-ending injuries to both starting tackles and perhaps (C) Pouncey, who at this writing has not been ruled out for the game with a high ankle sprain. His replacement, Legursky, was only adequate in replacing Pouncey for the majority of the previous game. Should the Pittsburgh ground game be effective, it will open the airways in a huge way for QB Roethlisberger and a deep core of receivers, featuring veterans in Ward and Randle El plus the lightning quick young tri of Wallace, Brown, and Sanders. Key to this passing game, as always, will be TE Miller.

Special Teams:

For Green Bay, kickers Masthay and (PK) Crosby were serviceable. The return teams for Green Bay each finished in the middle of the league. Last year the Steelers were vulnerable to the kick return. HC Tomlin made improvement of those units a priority in the off-season. Though the Steelers lost (P) Sepulveda to a knee injury, his replacement Kapinos has done an adequate job. (PK) Suisham has been a solid replacement in going 16/18 after the Steelers released veteran Reed. In an area of the game which inevitably goes a long way in determining a final score, there?s little edge to be gleaned from the results of the current season.

Conclusion:

THE SIDE

Shopping for best line value is always important. Yet you must understand the realities of the NFL. In the regular season, there were 151 games in which the line was 6 or less. The straight-up winner covered 136 of those (90%). In 10 playoff games, this postseason, the SU winner beat the spread every time. Only 6 times in 43 Super Bowls has the point spread mattered. Keep that in mind when making your final decision. My preference at this time is for the Pittsburgh Steelers in this game. Should their running game succeed as expected, it will be a huge advantage. Teams who outrush their opponent by 30+ yards are a 76% play on over 1,500 selections since 2000. This year in the postseason, that edge has led to a 9-0 ATS record. Further reason for supporting the Steelers would be their playoff experience. Huge edge in that regard to Pittsburgh over a Green Bay team who is just beginning to emerge. Teams with clear experience edges in the Super Bowls are 11-6 ATS. There will be inevitable times in this game when the going will get tough. The Steelers are better equipped to handle those challenges. The final element to favor the Steelers is their superior passion and intensity on defense, which is more likely to lead to a big play game-changer. That accumulation of edges in key areas makes the Steelers the percentage side in this game. One further intangible to consider is that one of the sharpest sports books on the planet, Pinnacle, opened this game at a Pickem.

The Over Under:

With 5 of the last 6 Super Bowls going Under the total, a knee jerk reaction might be to go Under an inflated line of 44 ½ with a pair of defenses that allow a combined 31 points. Yet there?s more to scoring defense, particularly in championship games. The combination for the potential of Special Teams scores and fourth-quarter fireworks, should one team be trailing significantly, all make the Under a dangerous proposition.

Situation Favorable for Steelers in AFC Championship Game

By Joe Gavazzi, Winning Sports Advice

When the line maker installed the Steelers as 3-point favorite over the Jets in their Sunday clash at 6:30 pm, he may not have fully incorporated the situational advantage the Steelers have in this game. It?s true that each of these opponents is coming off huge emotional wins against division rivals to get to this game. But if the Jets are to play to their potential, they will have to overcome a serious negative scheduling scenario. This will be the fifth game in 6 weeks on the road for the Jets and the third straight playoff game. They are coming off consecutive underdog wins over Indy and New England. No other NFL team has ever defeated the Colts and the Patriots in consecutive weeks. While the Jets have been going through this emotional meat grinder for several weeks, the Steelers had the benefit of a pair of easy victories to close the season in defeating Carolina and Cleveland 68-12. With plenty left in their emotional tank following a week of rest, they were well situated for their second-half comeback against the Ravens. The nature of that second-half comeback will provide full momentum as the Steelers play consecutive home games. Cannot dismiss the fact that the Steelers retain full focused in light of their 22-17 loss to the Jets December 19th on this field as a 6-point favorite. When we do our final late week analysis of this contest, including our statistical review, we will clearly incorporate this positive situational edge the Steelers have entering this contest. Check back Thursday at 3:00 pm EST for our definitive opinion on this game, remembering we have won 6 consecutive NFL playoff games.
