ACC Tournament: Virginia Opens with Pitt

ACC Tournament

UVA and Pitt Love to Slow it Down

The Pittsburgh Panthers and the Virginia Cavaliers will meet in the 2017 ACC Basketball Tournament on Wednesday. They will meet at Barclays Center. The game will be televised by ESPN2 and is supposed to tip around 9 pm EST.

Only four days after meeting in both teams' regular-season finale on senior day at UVA,  No. 14 seed Pittsburgh will battle No. 6 seed Virginia in the second round of the ACC tournament. Virginia is playing some of its best basketball of the season during their current three-game winning streak. It followed a four-game losing streak, which was the Cavs longest in four years.

Oddsmakers have the Cavs as 10-point favorites in this ACC Tournament matchup. The total is at 117.

Virginia was a 67-42 winner in their most recent outing at home against the Pitt Panthers. They covered the -11-point spread as favorites. Virginia had almost zero success in the ACC tournament over the last decade or so. Recently the Cavaliers have thrived in the tournament. The Cavs have reached the title game in two of the last three seasons. This includes an ACC tournament title in 2014.

Pittsburgh was a 61-59 winner in their first round matchup against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. They failed to cover the -2.5-point spread as favorites. The Panthers made just 6 of 23 3-point shots against the Yellow Jackets in the first round of the ACC Tournament. It continued a decline in their outside shooting that was in full effect against the Cavaliers in the regular season finale as well.
