One of the more intriguing interconference matchups on the Week 1 NFL
slate this Sunday sends the Green Bay Packers on the road to face the
Jacksonville Jaguars in a 1 p.m. (ET) start at EverBank Field. BetAnySports has listed the Packers as 4.5-point road favorites with the total set at 48.

Green Bay opened the 2015 regular season with six straight-up wins and a
5-1 record against the spread, but a mid-season swoon sunk the Packers
to 10-6 SU on the year and into second place in the NFC North behind
Minnesota. They were able to rally down the stretch for bettors with a
5-2 record ATS in their final seven games. Green Bay went 3-1 (SU and
ATS) in the preseason this year with all four games staying UNDER
BetAnySports’ closing line.

You know that former league MVP Aaron Rodgers will be ready to go this
Sunday and he will have his favorite target Jordy Nelson back in the
lineup after missing last season with an injury. Along with this duo
anchoring the passing game, Green Bay will turn to Eddie Lacy as the
featured back in the running game. The Packers also have some big-named
talent of the other side of the ball and this unit is going to have to
step up its game after slipping to 15th in the league last season in
total yards allowed.

Jacksonville has not posted a SU winning season since 2007, but the
expectation level is as high as it has been in recent years behind some
good young talent on both offense and defense. The Jaguars went 5-11 SU
last season with a 7-8-1 record ATS. They did drop their last three
games of the season both SU and ATS with the total staying UNDER in two
of the three games. They were 1-3 SU (2-2 ATS) in the 2016 preseason and
the lone win was a 26-21 victory against Cincinnati in Week 3 as
1.5-point home favorites.

Blake Bortles enters his third season as Jacksonville’s starting
quarterback and his favorite target has been Allen Robinson. These two
hooked up 80 times last season for 1,400 yards and 14 touchdowns. The
Jaguars also have Allen Hurns and tight end Julius Thomas in the passing
game and TJ Yeldon as the team’s top running back.

This is going to be a much closer game than expected to the point where I will take BetAnySports 4.5 points on the spread in a “best bet” pick on the Jaguars covering as home underdogs on opening day

NFL Preseason Pick of the Week: Detroit Lions vs. Jacksonville Jaguars - Friday, Aug. 28 - Handicappers Hideaway

Betting on Jaguars Football

NFL Preseason Pick of the Week: Detroit Lions vs. Jacksonville Jaguars – Friday, Aug. 28

Current BetAnySports Line: Jaguars -2 and the total is sitting at 39 1/2

The Detroit Lions and the Jacksonville Jaguars kick-off Week 3 of the
NFL preseason this Friday night at EverBank Field in an 8 p.m. (ET)
start that will be broadcast nationally on CBS. Both teams come into
this game with a 1-1 record in the preseason both straight-up and
against the spread. BetAnySports has listed Jacksonville as a slight
one-point home favorite and the betting odds for the total have been set
at 42.5.

The Lions followed-up their 23-2 victory over the New York Jets as
four-point home favorites in Week 1 with a 21-17 loss to Washington this
past week as three-point road underdogs. The total stayed UNDER
BetAnySports’ closing line in each game. Over the first two games
starting quarterback Matthew Stafford has looked sharp in limited action
with 135 yards passing and one score while completing eight of 10
throws. Look for him to possibly play into the second half in Friday
night’s contest.

Detroit’s offense as a whole this preseason has averaged 215 yards
passing and another 119.5 yards a game on the ground. Zach Zenner leads
the team in rushing with 77 yards on 17 carries, but most of the
attention has focused on second-round pick Ameer Abdullah with 74 yards
rushing on just nine attempts for an average of 8.2 yards a run.

Jacksonville’s 1-1 start consists of a 23-21 victory against Pittsburgh
in Week 1 as slight one-point home favorites followed by last Friday’s
22-12 loss to the New York Giants as a 3.5-point underdog on the road.
The total went OVER the 37-point line against the Steelers and it stayed
UNDER the 40.5-point line against New York.

The expectation level for Blake Bortles remains high coming into his
second year as the Jaguars’ starting quarterback. Through limited
playing time in the first two games he has completed 19-of-31 attempts
for 216 yards. Jacksonville’s offense has struggled to move the ball
both through the air and on the ground with an average of 284.5 yards in
two games. Against the Giants, it only managed to gain 60 yards
rushing.

Both team’s starters should play well into the second half on Friday
night which clearly gives the edge in this matchup to Detroit. Last
season the Lions beat Jacksonville 13-12 in Week 3 of the preseason as
three-point favorites at home. This time around look for Detroit to win
SU by a much wider margin.

NFL Odds: With NFC Wild Card Available, Falcons Visit Jaguars Desperate for Win

It took a 24-point second half in their Week 14 matchup on Sunday, but the Atlanta Falcons eventually clawed their way to a comeback victory over the Carolina Panthers and put themselves back in the conversation as a possible NFC playoff contender.

Get exact NFL odds for the postseason with Bovada Sportsbook.

Though they've seen the New Orleans Saints pull out in front of the NFC South and stay there, hope remains for the 8-5 Falcons to sneak in to the extra season through a wild card berth. In order to do so though they'll have to continue capitalizing on winnable games.

This Thursday, in a primetime Week 15 affair, the Falcons will match up against the 4-9 Jacksonville Jaguars. Though the Matt Ryan-led contingent isn?t about to guarantee a championship any time soon, their odds of winning the Super Bowl would likely jump with a second consecutive win at this point in the season.

Currently the Detroit Lions, Chicago Bears and Dallas Cowboys stand as competition for the final two NFC berths.

Sadly for Falcons fans, the hometown Jaguars aren?t about to just roll over. Count on the tandem of Blaine Gabbert and Maurice Jones-Drew to power their squad on the NFL odds board, whether or not it will be enough.

With time running out in the regular season the pressure is on any and all clubs looking to reserve spots in the postseason. It starts now and will continue until the final whistle blows.
