Daily Fantasy Sports: DraftTeam holds a $2,000 MLB Tuesday Triple Play contest every week - Handicappers Hideaway

online fantasy sports at DraftTeam

Happy Tuesday, everyone. What could be happy about a Tuesday? Simple. DraftTeam holds a $2,000 MLB Tuesday Triple Play contest
every week, so if that doesn’t alter your perception of this day of the
week, we don’t know what would. What’s that? Free beer? Well, yes, we
suppose that would work, too.

Let’s get you set for play on Tuesday, July 21.

Just over a month ago, we advised picking up Yankee 3B Alex Rodriguez
($10,583) as he needed just one more hit to join the 3,000-hit club.
Sure enough, he homered that night to hit the mark. On Tuesday, however,
we’re going to avoid A-Rod. He came out of the break bashing (see video
below), but is now just 1-for-8 with five Ks in the last two games.
More importantly, Rodriguez has always struggled against Baltimore SP
Wei-Yin Chen (2-for-13 with five strikeouts). Yes, ARoid is enjoying a
tremendous comeback season, but if you’re looking for a 3B for Tuesday,
spend a bit more and get Kyle Seager ($11,363). You can thank us
tomorrow.

At the beginning of the season, we talked about how Washington SS Ian
Desmond ($4,745) was the only big leaguer with three straight 20-20
seasons and wondered what he had planned for 2015, the final season of
his contract. Well, this was obviously not what he had in mind. We’re
past the 90-game mark now and Desmond has yet to reach double digits in
homers or steals while his batting average has plummeted to career worst
levels as he’s struggled to hit his way out of a wet paper bag.

Yet, we are going to recommend him as a sneaky cheap option. Yes,
Desmond has to face the nasty Jacob DeGrom, but we like the life his bat
showed Monday as he smoked a two-run dinger and singled to snap a
3-for-44 skid. Desmond is someone that’s feasted on Mets pitching at
Nationals Park (.339 in the last 16 games there), so take that into
consideration as well.

DFS Notes

  • Tonight marks the MLB debut of SP Aaron Nola ($14,693), one of the
top prospects for the Phillies. The seventh overall pick from last year
has soared through the minors very quickly, and we like his matchup
    tonight (vs. TB).
  • Seattle SP Taijuan Walker ($19,142) was on a major roll as July
began, but in his last two starts the bubble has burst (11 IP, 13 hits,
12 runs, 11 ER, 3 HR). His ERA has risen a half a run based on this pair
    of duds.
  • Los Angeles Dodgers SP Clayton Kershaw (next scheduled to pitch
Thursday), was looking somewhat human in late-June, but is really
rounding into form since with just two earned runs allowed over his last
    31 innings.

DraftTeam DFS: DraftTeam's MLB $3,000 High Heater Contests and Qualify for the $50,000 All Star Break Grand Slam Contest - Handicappers Hideaway

online fantasy sports at DraftTeam

Wow, can you believe another week of Daily Fantasy Baseball has flown
by, bringing us to Friday already? Well, the good news, it’s not only
the weekend but another chance for you to enter one of DraftTeam’s MLB $3,000 High Heater contests.

You know what’s awesome about fantasy sports? Professional sports all
involve games we have no control over, but by drafting you own roster,
you regain that sense of control — or at least a semblance of it. That’s
empowering!

Exactly 13 months ago today, we discussed how Melky Cabrera was part of a
select quartet of players that hadn’t gone hitless in back-to-back
games through the first two months and change of the 2014 season. He
wound up enjoying a tremendous comeback season, proving he was past the
PED scandal.

Cabrera signed with the White Sox this winter and he hasn’t come close
to duplicating his fine 2014. His hits are down, his walks are down and
his speed has evaporated. After getting on base more than 35 percent of
the time last year, Cabrera is barely doing so 30 percent of the time
this season.

Now, the good news: the Melk Man is scorching in July. He homered
Thursday to extend his batting streak to eight games (see video below
for one of the biggest hits of his streak) and improve his slash line
this month to .379/.394/.690 — just as the Sox are heating up, winning
seven of nine. Looking for a second half sleeper? Cabrera could be your
man.

The good news: Houston 3B Luis Valbuena returned to action Thursday
after missing three games with a toe woe. The bad news? He went 0-for-3,
dropping his BA to .201 — fourth worst in the bigs. Still, Valbuena has
clubbed a team-leading 19 dingers — an amazing figure considering he
only has 56 hits in total. You don’t usually see a player like Valbuena
having that high a percentage of homers among his hits; that’s usually
reserved for the Mark McGwires and Barry Bonds of the world.

Fantasy Baseball Notes

  • Houston LOOGY Joe Thatcher was enjoying a stellar campaign, but he’s
been scored on in consecutive outings to see his ERA rise from 2.04 to
3.44. Wildness has been his undoing this year. Ah, the perils of being a
    specialist reliever.
  • Speaking of Astros relievers, how about the job Will Harris has done
this year? With over a strikeout per inning and a mere 16 hits allowed
in 34 appearances and 39 2/3 IP, he arguably deserves a spot on the
    All-Star team.
  • After seeing essentially full-time at-bats and hitting .293 in 2013,
OF J.B. Shuck has only received 184 at-bats over the last two seasons
combined. He deserves more action this year based on his play, but he’s
    been rotting on the pine.

Daily Fantasy Baseball at DraftTeam: Weekly MLB $2,000 Triple Play contest + $50K MLB All Star Break Grand Slam Qualifier - Handicappers Hideaway

online fantasy sports at DraftTeam

Tuesdays are generally a boring day of the week, except when it comes to Daily Fantasy Baseball at DraftTeam, as we’ve got our weekly MLB $2,000 Triple Play contest — the best thing to happen to Tuesday since Ruby.

Boston C Ryan Hanigan ($7,887), who had been out since May 1 with a
broken bone in his hand, was activated on Thursday, and it took him a
couple of games to shake off the rust, but on Monday he went 3-for-3
with a walk and drove in two runs. This veteran backstop is no offensive
star, but even though he was the only starting this year because of
injury he was enjoying his best season since 2012 before getting hurt.
The way Boston’s offense is kicking into gear now, Hanigan could be a
sneaky play against Dan Haren and the Fish Tuesday.

In late-July last year, we advised avoiding Arizona 1B Paul Goldschmidt
($13,599), and sure enough, he went 0-for-4 and struck out twice that
night. This time, despite a very tough opponent in Texas SP Yovani
Gallardo, we are going to go with the NL’s All Star first baseman. He
heated up last week (although cooled somewhat the last couple of days),
and has always hit Gallardo well (5-for-9 with a double, three walks and
three RBI). With a walk in seven straight games, Goldschmidt has added
to his NL lead with 66 free passes on the season (hence his amazing .466
OBP).

We love the rookie season Atlanta 2B Jace Peterson ($7,399) is putting
together, and believe he’d have been a better pick as the NL All Star at
second base than DJ LeMahieu. However, Peterson seems to be hitting a
bit of a wall, having gone 4-for-28 over the last week and change, so
we’re avoiding him for now. A better choice at the keystone corner for
Tuesday is Oakland’s Ben Zobrist ($8,933).

DFS Notes

  • Baltimore SP Kevin Gausman ($13,290) has not yielded a home run
since April 19 and over his last six starts he has a 2.04 ERA. It’s
about time the O’s set this kid free.
  • Speaking of young hurlers that are finally getting their shot, how
about Andrew Heaney ($22,626) of the Angels? All he’s done is go 1-0
with a 1.38 ERA in his first two starts. Not bad considering how badly
he was beaten up with the Marlins last year.
  • Oh what the hell? Let’s keep the young pitcher theme going.
Seattle’s Taijuan Walker ($27,371) has won his last five starts,
recording a 1.67 ERA in the process. Did we mention he’s just 22? Well,
there you have three reasons that the future of pitching in the AL in
    bright.

Daily Fantasy Sports at DraftTeam

MLB $3,000 High Heater contest day over at DraftTeam, so make sure you get your entry in

Here are some tips for play on Friday July 3.

For the second day in a row, we’re going to lead off by recommending a
Pirate. Why not? The Buccos are scorching right now and few are as hot
as SS Jordy Mercer ($8,888). He’s hit safely in eight straight, but over
his last seven games specifically, he’s batting .469, recording
multiple hits six times.

Mercer’s offensive game has been in regression for a couple of years,
but a week like this can sure help take the sting out of it. April and
May were extremely unkind to him, but he sure woke up in June (800 OPS)
and early on, July has been even better. Mercer is not getting quite as
much PT this year, and his counting cats are way down. His walk rate had
dipped and his slugging percentage is at a career low. Perhaps Mercer
is gearing up for a big second half, which is not unusual for him. Over
the last three years, he’s recorded a 791 second half OPS compared to
just 653 in the first half.

Almost two months ago, we discussed Boston LF Hanley Ramirez’s latest
injury, but he didn’t wind up missing that much action. In fact, the
fragile star missed more games at the end of June because of a hand
injury. In the two games since Ramirez has returned, he’s proved his
hand woe has not sapped him of his extra-base pop. He tripled on
Wednesday and hit a solo homer on Thursday. At $10,460, we like Ramirez
on Friday against Houston and SP Dan Straily, a pitcher he’s faced twice
and doubled once against.

DFS Notes

  • Another solid LF option is Milwaukee’s Gerardo Parro ($8,738). He’s
batting .382 over the last 14 games to reach the .300 mark for the
season. If he gets enough PT in the second half (which is questionable
with Khris Davis due back shortly), Parra could reach double figures in
both homers and steals for the second time.
  • Bring out your fringe hitters against the Phillies. Their team ERA
against the woeful Brewers in a four-game sweep this week was 6.39. Ugh.
  • Los Angeles Angels CF Mike Trout ($14,193) is batting .277 at home,
but .331 on the road. The Halos begin a nine-game road trip Friday, so
be sure to plug Trout in there as often as feasible.

DraftTeam is hosting its $50,000 All Star Break Grand Slam Contest - Handicappers Hideaway

Daily Fantasy Sports at DraftTeam

Hey, Daily Fantasy Baseball loving peeps: In just over two weeks, DraftTeam is hosting its $50,000 All Star Break Grand Slam contest, so make sure you get your entry in.

Now, let’s see if we can help you win some cash on Thursday July 2.

The last time we recommended Pittsburgh 2B Neil Walker ($8,441), he
wound up getting a day off. That serves as a perfect reminder to always
check the daily lineups before finalizing your own roster. At any rate,
Walker has sure shaken off his hip and core injuries recently. He was
stuck in a 4-for-32 rut over a 10-game span, but then started to turn it
around by going 4-for-9 over his next three games.

Then Walker and his teammates went to Motown to face the Tigers and in
the first game of the series, he lashed two hits, including the go-ahead
RBI double as the Pirates won in 14 innings. On Wednesday, he exploded
for a season-best four hits, two of which left the park. Suddenly Walker
owns Detroit, having gone 17-for-40 with four jacks in the last nine
games, and is lobbying baseball to have the Tigers shifted to the
National League. Needless to say, he looks like a great investment
tonight, as he turns things around from a first half in which he simply
didn’t hit as well as last year.

In late-September 2013, we recommended Milwaukee 3B Aramis Ramirez
($6,902), but he only went 1-for-4, striking out twice. Well, we’re
getting back on the ARam horse. He’s been killing the Phillies so far in
this series, going 5-for-9 with seven RBI — despite the fact that he
didn’t even start Monday’s game. Suddenly, we’re not moaning about
Ramirez’s lack of productivity this season. And get this: he has
back-to-back multiple hit efforts for the first time in what’s been a
trying final season.

DFS Notes

  • How scorching is Texas SP Yovani Gallardo ($23,158) right now? Since
May 24, he’s 4-0 with the lowest ERA in the bigs (0.99) and has not
given up a single long ball.
  • Whatever you do, don’t start a southpaw against the Toronto Blue
Jays. They are hitting an MLB-best .306 against lefties. Needless to
say, Boston SP Wade Miley ($20,458) is to be avoided on Thursday.
  • Atlanta C A.J. Pierzynski ($7,049) is feasting on Washington
pitching at home this season, having gone 8-for-19 (.421) with 10
ribbies in five games at Turner Field.

Weekend Daily Fantasy Sports Report for June 5th - Handicappers Hideaway

Weekend Daily Fantasy Sports Report for June 5th

Happy Friday, everyone! With the end of another week comes another
chance to win some big bucks competing in DraftTeam’s $3,000 MLB High
Heater contest. How sweet will your weekend be with some extra cash?

One of the best things about daily fantasy sports is that you have the
convenience to play however you want to. Just sitting back watching a
few games tonight and feel like making things more interesting by
participating in a pool? Go for it! On a business trip, but don’t want
to miss out on the action? No worries… it only take a few minutes to get
your team in and give yourself a chance to win some cash!

Can we talk about the legend that Joey Gallo is building for himself?
Called up to replace the injured Adrian Beltre, on Tuesday he enjoys one
of the best MLB debuts you’ll ever see, going 3-for-4 with a double, a
homer (see video below) and four RBI. Gallo fell a triple shy of
hitting for the cycle.

The power-hitting dynamo followed that up on Wednesday by smacking a
solo shot off a lefty reliever — a great sign from the left-handed
hitting Gallo, who had struggled against southpaws at Double-A. On
Thursday, the kid got on base twice.

Seeking pop? Look no further than this kid.

Texas is dealing with its share of injuries (add Josh Hamilton to that
list now), but SP/RP Ross Detwiler (shoulder) is getting closer to a
return, and he could provide a boost to a bullpen that has been taxed
lately. Detwiler has been used exclusively as a starter this year after
being used only as a reliever in his final season with the Nats in
2014.

Thanks to some control problems, he’s struggled to an 0-5 mark with an
ugly 6.95 ERA, so perhaps the bullpen is the best place for him.

In our notes section today, we’re going to check in on a few minor league developments. Quick Hits

  • SP
Bryan Mitchell, who made his MLB debut for the Yanks last year, looks
ready for another shot. On Wednesday — despite some wildness — he won
his second straight start, and he’s now held opponents to a .216 BAA
through 11 starts and 56 2/3 IP. Mitchell has not given up a homer this
    season.
  • Minnesota SP Ricky Nolasco (ankle) has been
put on the DL for the third time in 11 months. Tommy Milone, who was
dynamite in Triple-A (4-0, 0.70 ERA in five starts with phenomenal
command) has been recalled and started Thursday with less than
impressive results (nine hits, four runs — two earned — in five innings
with one walk and no strikeouts).
  • Another minor
leaguer getting the call is Detroit OFer Daniel Fields. His extra-base
pop at Triple-A this year has been very impressive (15 doubles, seven
triples, three homers for a .486 slugging) after he struggled so badly
in his Triple-A debut in 2014.

Are you ready for some Daily Fantasy Baseball? - Handicappers Hideaway

Are you ready for some Daily Fantasy Baseball?

Heading into the season, we discussed how tough it is to find power in Fantasy baseball these days, and as a result expressed our surprise that Mets 1B Lucas Duda took so long to get drafted in our league.

While he’s having a big season (at least from a slash line perspective),
it’s hard to justify investing $9,404 for him right now. After all,
following a huge end to May (six homers in last nine games of the
month), Duda has gone ice cold (3-for-18 in the last five games). On
Wednesday, he grounded out with the bases loaded to end the game.

Oakland 2B Ben Zobrist ($9,788) has not been a kind pick to us over the years. The last time we picked him
(in July), he was just 1-for-4, although he did manage a run. Meh.
We’re steering clear now. Sure, he launched a grand salami on Tuesday
(see video below for the great reaction from the Detroit kid who caught
it), but that’s one of just two hits Zobrist has managed over the past
16 at-bats.

In late-July
we predicted that a monster year was coming soon for Baltimore 3B
Manny Machado ($12,347). Well, he continues to improve at a modest
pace, so it’s going to take a huge second half for this to turn into
that monster season, but either way, we’re avoiding him right now.
Machado finished a nice May with a flourish, but has gone back into the
tank, going 2-for-12 since. And on Thursday, he has to face Houston’s
Dallas Keuchel, who is pitching like an All-Star this season.

Quick Hits

  • Have you noticed how Minnesota SP Trevor May is coming
into his own lately? Over his last four starts, his command has been
off the charts with 26 Ks and one walk in 26 2/3 IP. This is a
youngster you need to keep a close eye on.
  • Speaking of
young, impressive starters, how about Boston’s Eduardo Rodriguez? He’s
the first pitcher in the post-1900 era to last seven-plus innings in
both of his first two career starts and give up no more than a run and
three hits. Can this kid help turn Boston’s season around?
  • Chicago
Cubs SP Jon Lester not only endured his worst start of the season on
    Wednesday (5 IP, 9 H, 6 ER, 2 HR, 1 BB, 4 K), but he dropped to
0-for-61 as a hitter in his career.

Daily Fantasy Baseball advice for play on Wednesday, June 3 on DraftTeam - Handicappers Hideaway

Daily Fantasy Sports at DraftTeam

Welcome back, for more free Daily Fantasy Baseball advice for play on Wednesday, June 3 on DraftTeam. Let’s get to it!

The Boston Red Sox promoted RF Rusney Castillo ($8,174) a couple of
weeks ago to try to breathe life into a moribund attack that had seen
the team struggle so badly in May.

So far, it hasn’t exactly worked wonders. While Castillo drove in the
only run in Tuesday’s 1-0 win to give him three hits in the last two
games, he has yet to deliver an extra-base hit in nine games, and has
generally been unproductive.

He’s flashed some sweet leather (see video below) and we’re confident
Castillo will be a fine DFS play in time; unfortunately, that time has
yet to arrive, so we’re keeping him on the sidelines until he proves
himself more dependable.

Need a SP tonight? How about St. Louis’ John Lackey ($23,586) at home
against Milwaukee. Since getting dealt to the Cards last year, Lackey
is 6-1 with a 1.78 ERA in 10 starts in St. Louis, including Friday’s
seven shutout innings with nine Ks against the Dodgers. This season,
he’s 3-1 with a 1.30 ERA in five starts at Busch Stadium.

Last month, it made no difference where Lackey pitched — he was
splendid. He went 2-2 with a 1.89 ERA in six starts in May.The other
reason we love Lackey Wednesday is that Milwaukee has struggled to score
lately; in fact, in the first two games of this series, there has been
only two total runs scored.

The last time we recommended San Francisco C Buster Posey ($10,485)
in early August, he was “meh,” going 1-for-4 with a strikeout. We expect
better out of him Wednesday given how much he loves smacking
Pittsburgh’s Francisco Liriano around. For his career, Posey is 5-for-9
with a couple of ribbies against the Pirate southpaw. This should be
just what the doctor ordered to snap Posey out of a mini slump — he’s
just 1-for-10 over the last three games to drop back to .290 for the
season.

Quick Hits

  • Washington starting pitcher Max Scherzer had given up just three
dingers in 71 2/3 IP before Kevin Pillar of the Jays burned him twice in
    six innings on Tuesday.
  • Philadelphia starting pitcher Cole Hamels’ trade value just keeps
rising. Over his last five starts, he’s gone 4-1 with a 1.69 ERA while
whiffing 38 against just six walks in 37 1/3 IP. Considering Hamels owns
the Reds, Wednesday should offer more of the same domination.
  • The Oakland A’s were the worst team in baseball as of May 22. Since
then, the team’s rotation has posted an amazing 1.53 ERA over the last
10 games to help begin the turnaround.

All signs point to a Kurt Suzuki slump-busting game. - Handicappers Hideaway

Daily Fantasy Sports at DraftTeam

All signs point to a Kurt Suzuki slump-busting game.

Welcome back to another great week of Daily Fantasy Baseball advice.

Minnesota Twins catcher Kurt Suzuki ($7,098), who enjoyed one of his
best-hitting seasons last year, has experienced some major shrinkage in
his offensive output in 2015. And with a .192 mark over his last seven
games, things haven’t been getting any better. In fact, Suzuki has seen a
fair amount of pine time lately — but there is some good news.

The Twins kick off another series against Boston on Monday, and the
veteran backstop simply loves facing the BoSox, hitting safely in 13
straight games against them to the tune of a .417 mark. Better
yet,Boston is starting Clay Buchholz, a pitcher whom Suzuki is 9-for-18
against in his career. We’re banking on Suzuki snapping his slump in a
big way Monday.

It’s time to jump on Miami 1B Justin Bour’s ($11,658) train. This
rookie just keeps mauling pitchers, having gone deep three straight
games. In all, Bour is 24-for-65 (.369) with five dingers this season.
Oh sure, this may all be a weird anomaly, but that doesn’t mean you
shouldn’t take advantage of his hot streak while you can.

Colorado 2B DJ LeMahieu ($9,545) is an amazing pick right now. He had
a huge game Sunday (3-for-4, two runs, two-run homer) to raise his BA
to .380 over the last 13 games. Keep in mind, LeMahieu enjoyed an even
better April than May, and overall, we are loving how productive he’s
been this season.

But here’s the kicker: he has struggled against the Dodgers lately
(.146 BA over last 14 games) and specifically against Clayton Kershaw
(who hasn’t?), going just 2-for-14 over the last two seasons. We’re
recommending you discard the history and ride the hot hand — especially
considering that Kershaw hasn’t exactly looked like himself early on
this season.

Quick Hits

  • On Monday, Atlanta SP Alex Wood has a chance to win a third straight
start for the first time in his career — all on the road. He’s only
given up three runs in 14 IP over his last two outings.
  • Tampa Bay 3B Evan Longoria is 0-for-5 in his career against Monday’s
starter, Garrett Richards. Longo is also hitless in his last two games
with just a .227 mark over the last week and a substandard .262 BA in
    May.
  • Seattle SP Felix Hernandez (8-1 with a 1.91 ERA) is averaging over
seven innings per start, putting him on pace to top 225 frames for the
sixth time in his career. Workhorse!
