Sidney Crosby Out as Pens Host the Caps - Handicappers Hideaway

Betting on Penguins Hockey

Pens Hoist 4th Stanley Cup Banner

The Washington Capitals and the Pittsburgh Penguins open the 2016-17
NHL season on Thursday when they battle at Consol Energy Center. Sidney
Crosby will be out for the Pens as he is battling a concussion. With
arguably the NHL’s best player out tonight the defense of the Pens NHL
Championship may start out a little difficult.

Oddsmakers
currently have the Capitals listed as 115-moneyline favorites versus
the Penguins, while the game’s total is sitting at 5. The absense of
Sidney Crosby has swung this line 25-cents towards the Caps.

In their last action, Pittsburgh was a 3-1 winner on the road against
the San Jose Sharks. The win sealed their 2015-16 Stanley Cup
Championship.

Washington was a 4-3 loser in its last match in the Stanley Cup
Finals against the Pittsburgh Penguins.  With Sidney Crosby out they are
hoping to start the 2016-17 NHL season off to a good start on the road.

The fans at SAP Center will be treated to game 4 of the NHL Finals
between the Pittsburgh Penguins and the San Jose Sharks when they take
their seats on Monday. This should be another low scoring close game and
will be a fun one to watch.

Oddsmakers currently have the Penguins listed as 230-moneyline favorites versus the Sharks, while the game's total is sitting at 5.

The Penguins were a 3-2 loser in their most recent outing on the road
against the Sharks. That made winners of bettors who got San Jose at
-150 on the moneyline, while the total score (5) was good news for OVER
bettors.

How valuable is experience in the Stanley Cup Final? The Pittsburgh
Penguins have it, and they took advantage of the San Jose Sharks Monday
night, grabbing an early 1-0 lead in their series by beating San Jose
3-2 as –130 home favourites. Game 2 takes place Wednesday night in
Pittsburgh at 8 PM ET on CBC and NBCSN. Sidney Crosby has been working
tirelessly, as the leader he is, with the younger players on the Pens
and it is clearly paying off. Oddsmakers have the Pens as a -130
favorite on the moneyline while the Under 5.5 is -140.

Bet on hockey at Bodog and get a free 100% bonus.

The Penguins, who won their third Stanley Cup in 2009, came into this
series as –120 title favourites over San Jose, who brushed aside their
long history of playoff futility to make their first-ever Final. Even
after Monday's loss, the Sharks still have the best goal differential
during this postseason at 1.11 goals per game, and the most profit
against the puck line at +7.65 betting units on a record of 12-7 ATS.

But it was Pittsburgh (9-10 ATS, +5.22 units) that drew first blood in
Game 1. After coughing up an early two-goal lead, the Penguins scored
the winner late in the third period when Nick Bonino scored his fourth
of the playoffs. However, the Pens did lose Bryan Rust to an “upper-body
injury” after he was checked in the head by Patrick Marleau. Rust is
considered day-to-day for now.

NHL Odds: Young Goalies for Lightning, Penguins - Handicappers Hideaway

The Tampa Bay Lightning and Pittsburgh Penguins are both relying on
young goaltenders to get them to the Stanley Cup Final. In the case of
the Lightning, it could come back to haunt them. Andrei Vasilevskiy
(.910 save percentage during the regular season) gave up the winning
goal 40 seconds into overtime Monday night, as the Penguins (–225 at
home) prevailed to even their series at 1-1 heading into Wednesday's
Game 3 at the Amalie Arena. Game time is 8 PM ET on CBC and NBCSN.
Oddsmakers have the Penquins as -130 moneylline favorites while the
total is at 5.

Bet on hockey at Bovada and get a free 100% bonus.

The 21-year-old Vasilevskiy actually played quite well in Game 2, making
38 saves in his first start of the playoffs. But the sophomore back-up
has a tall task replacing Ben Bishop (.926 SV%), who left Game 1 of this
series with a leg injury that appeared quite serious at the time.
Bishop might be able to return later in this series; however, his
availability for Game 3 is in serious doubt.

The Penguins, meanwhile, have enjoyed tremendous success behind
20-year-old Matt Murray (.930 SV%). He stepped in earlier this year for
injured veteran Marc-Andre Fleury (.921 SV%) and played so brilliantly,
he's the new No. 1 goalie in Pittsburgh.

NHL Odds: Caps Need Game 4 Win in Pittsburgh - Handicappers Hideaway

The Washington Capitals may have been the top team in the NHL during the
regular season, but if they don't beat the Pittsburgh Penguins this
Wednesday (8 PM ET, NBCSN) in Game 4 of their Eastern Conference
semifinal, it could mean an early trip to the golf course. Pittsburgh
carries a 2-1 series lead into Wednesday's game at the Consol Energy
Center after beating the Caps 3-2 Monday night as a –140 home favourite.
Oddsmakers have the Pens as a -130 favorite on the Moneyline and the
total is at 5.

Bet on hockey at Bodog and get a free 100% bonus.

Not much has gone right for the Capitals since they took a 3-0 lead over
the Philadelphia Flyers in the first round. Washington has lost four of
the past six games, and defenseman Brooks Orpik (three goals, plus-11)
was handed a three-game suspension for a late hit on Pittsburgh
blueliner Olli Maatta. Orpik won't be available until Game 6 – if the
Capitals make it that far.

The Penguins have accomplished all this without the services of their
No. 1 goaltender; Marc-Andre Fleury (.921 save percentage) has been out
with a concussion since early April. Matt Murray (.930 SV%) started the
last six games for Pittsburgh, and his only loss was in Game 1 of this
series, when Washington (–135 at home) prevailed 4-3 in overtime.

For over 46 years and only the second time in history, the NHL’s Stanley
Cup is guaranteed to go to an American team with all seven Canadian
teams eliminated from the Playoffs – and while it is a shame that the
inventors of the Sport are shut out of the winning race, it’s more of a
shame that we never played any spread betting points and made a killing on it ... although as a Yank I’m slightly biased to that order.

With over a week and a half to go from the main season, the last
remaining team with a chance – the Senators – were eliminated as the
Flyers beat the Capitals. While many of Canada’s large fan base are
being reminded that there are several major Canadian players still in
the tournament, ‘including Chicago captain Jonathan Toews, Los Angeles rearguard Drew Doughty and Pittsburgh centre Sidney Crosby,’ there is a sense from many that this does little to console them in the wake of the bigger picture.

However – let’s take a look at who has the most players on their team rosters from Canada:
  • The Panthers – Fielding a whopping 16 Canadian players – however 5 are currently injured
  • The Flyers – With 15 Canadian players on their books, they are a good alternative
  • The Ducks – Another team with 15 on the list, they could carry the flag for the fans
Alternatively fans can just root against the teams that they hate
most and therefore support a ‘Wild card’ pick which would certainly make
the games a little more calm to watch.

So does this look like a one-off or the start of a serious decline for
the Canucks in the NHL? Last year there were 5 teams from Canada that
qualified for the post-season playoffs, and whilst the Chicago Blackhawks were the eventual victors
and the previous years had just one or two Canadian teams, this was
certainly not indicative of the events that have surfaced in this years’
Stanley Cup tournament. That doesn’t mean that we aren’t heading for a
downturn of teams in the Cup, just that we could face this situation
again if the Canadian teams don’t buck up their performances.

made winners of UNDER bettors.

The Penguins were a 5-3 loser in their most recent outing on the road

NHL Odds: Battle of Pennsylvania on NBCSN - Handicappers Hideaway

NHL Odds: Battle of Pennsylvania on NBCSN

It’s time for another Wednesday Night Rivalry matchup on NBCSN (8:00 PM
ET), with the Philadelphia Flyers visiting the Pittsburgh Penguins in
the latest Battle of Pennsylvania. The Flyers won both their previous
meetings this year, but at 30-29-7-10, they’re officially eliminated
from playoff contention. Philadelphia is also 4.89 units in the red
against the puck line despite a 41-35 ATS record.

Bet on hockey at Bodog and get a 100% welcome bonus.

The Penguins, meanwhile, are in second place in the Metropolitan
Division as we go to press at 42-23-5-6, and they’ve managed to make a
small profit this season at 34-42 ATS and plus-1.44 units. Unlike past
years, Pittsburgh’s defense is getting them to the pay window; the
Penguins are tied for sixth overall at 2.42 goals allowed per game, with
Marc-Andre Fleury (.921 save percentage, 11.5 Goalie Point Shares)
carrying most of the workload.

Realizing that their playoff chances were slim, the Flyers dropped
ballast at the March 2 trade deadline, and they’ve won just three of 13
games since. The flu bug is also working its way through the dressing
room; it’s uncertain if defensemen Mark Streit and Carlo Colaiacovo will
play Wednesday after missing Saturday’s 3-2 shootout loss to the San
Jose Sharks (+102 away).

NHL Odds: Cup-Favoured Chicago Visits Penguins

Betting on Penguins Hockey

Seven different teams have won the Stanley Cup in the nine years
since the 2004-2005 NHL lockout. We’ll see two of those teams in action
Wednesday night (8:00 PM ET, NBCSN) when the Chicago Blackhawks visit
the Pittsburgh Penguins. The Blackhawks won in 2010 and 2013 to end
nearly 50 years of frustration, and the Penguins claimed the Cup in
2009.

Bet on hockey at Bodog and get a free 100% bonus.

Chicago (28-15-1-1 going into Tuesday’s action) happens to be this
year’s Stanley Cup favourite at 11/2 in the NHL futures market. But
despite owning one of the league’s best goal differentials at plus-0.67,
the Hawks are in minus territory on the puck line at 16-29 ATS, causing
5.84 units in losses. Pittsburgh (26-12-3-3) is 10/1 to win the Cup and
3.14 units in the black at 19-25 ATS, with a goal differential of
plus-0.55.

Neither of these two clubs is particularly hot right now. Chicago has
dropped five of its last eight games, and Pittsburgh is 4-7 since left
wing Blake Comeau (11 goals, nine assists) was put on injured reserve
with a sprained wrist, followed quickly by right wing Patric Hornqvist
(13 goals, 16 assists) and his ankle/foot. Meanwhile, defenseman Olli
Maatta (shoulder) has been ruled out for the remainder of the 2014-2015
season.

The Playoff Test: Stars Measure Strength Against Betting Favorite Pittsburgh

The Dallas Stars will have to find a way to pick up a few extra wins heading into the final stretch of the season, and they'll get their first true opportunity to do so on Wednesday against the Pittsburgh Penguins. After missing out on the postseason the past few years, they'll look to add to their 2012 NHL odds any way they can.

Don't have an account? Join now.

Although, sure, the Pens sit just sixth in the Eastern Conference, there's no denying their legitimacy as a Stanley Cup futures contender. Even without Sidney Crosby the depth and experience of the team puts them as a threat on the NHL betting line.

With 10/1 odds of winning the Stanley Cup according to Bovada's oddsmakers - the fifth highest such mark in the NHL - they've proven that reputation matters.

That will be a hard fact to shake when Jamie Benn and Loui Eriksson look to launch the Stars into the playoffs for the first time since 2008. Dallas has increased their season point totals in each of the last three years but fell just short in 2011 with 95 points.

Is a return to the postseason in the cards? They do have 60/1 odds on the NHL futures line. Fans and bettors alike will get a better idea of what to expect out of Dallas after the Wednesday clash with slightly-favored Pittsburgh.

Questions Surround Pittsburgh While Rangers Lead NHL Odds

Can the Pittsburgh Penguins take a round out of the Eastern Conference-leading New York Rangers this week? We'll find out on Tuesday when the two Atlantic Division juggernauts clash on the NHL betting line.

NHL odds and props at Bovada.

Don't have an account? Join now.

Although the Rangers may hold the advantage both in the division and on the NHL futures board, there's a reason the Penguins - regardless of where they may sit in the conference - are widely considered a perennial threat.

Would a Sidney Crosby return down the stretch give the Pens the advantage they need to cash in on the NHL odds that give them a 12/1 shot at winning the title? The Rangers, in contrast, lead the entire league with 11/2 odds on that same Stanley Cup futures line.

Although there's no word on when Sid the Kid might make his return to the ice in Pittsburgh, NHL odds makers haven't ignored the fact that the man has been skating consistently since last month. Is a symptom-free Crosby imminent?

Even with their All-Star center, however, the Penguins have a long way to go before they're the talk of the conference. Led by goaltender Henrik Lundqvist, the Rangers have legitimately emerged as the team to beat in the East.

Is New York simply due for a deep playoff run? Weigh in on the NHL odds line today.

NHL Odds: Capitals Host Crosby-Less Penguins in Rivalry

Though never the same without Sidney Crosby, the Pittsburgh Penguins and Washington Capitals will renew their rivalry this Wednesday. The two clubs have met twice already this season with each team taking a win.

Get your NHL odds for the Penguins/Capitals season series at Bovada.

Though the Pens have missed Crosby's production on the ice, they've managed to stay relevant in the Eastern Conference playoff picture. With their Atlantic Division counterparts starting the 2011-12 campaign off strong, however, Pittsburgh finds themselves playing catch up at mid-season.

Will a heated victory over Alex Ovechkin and the Capitals be enough to push the Pens up the standings and eventually ahead of the Flyers and Rangers? Given the league's current seeding format, Pittsburgh has to do better than third if they hope to hold home-ice advantage in the first-round of the playoffs.

But just because Pittsburgh could benefit from a big January victory doesn't mean they'll necessarily get one. The Caps have spent far too long underachieving to sit back and relax now that they have found some momentum.

With defenseman Mike Green back on the ice, Washington will look to replicate the success they haven't managed to find since the 2009-10 season.
