MLB Odds: Kershaw, Dodgers Host Zimmermann, Nationals - Handicappers Hideaway
Kershaw, Dodgers Host Zimmermann, Nationals
Two National League powerhouses wrap up a three-game set on Wednesday in
Los Angeles as the Dodgers host the Washington Nationals. On their best
days, either of these starting pitchers can make any lineup in the
majors look foolish.
Bet on baseball at Bovada and get a free 50% bonus.
The Dodgers will go with Clayton Kershaw, who is a three-time Cy Young
winner and the defending MVP. He saw his scoreless-innings streak
snapped at 37 innings in his last outing. However, he returns home where
he’ 6-2 in 10 starts this season with an ERA of 1.66. Batters are
hitting just .188 off him in those outings. The Nationals counter with
Jordan Zimmermann, who is 0-2 in his last five starts, although he has
had some bad luck over that time. Zimmermann has been erratic on the
road this season, going 4-4 in 10 starts with an ERA of 4.95, which is
more than two runs higher than his ERA at home.
What’s more is that Kershaw has had his way with the Nationals
throughout his career, going 8-2 in 12 games (11 starts) with an ERA of
2.31. That includes the July 18 outing where Kershaw tossed eight
shutout innings of three-hit ball, striking out a season-high 14 batters
in a 4-2 win on the road in Washington.

MLB Odds: Pirates-Cardinals on ESPN
The St. Louis Cardinals (71-40, +23.02 units) have the best record in
baseball by far, both in the MLB standings and from a betting
perspective. The second-best team in the National League, on both
counts, happens to be the team chasing St. Louis down in the NL Central:
the Pittsburgh Pirates (65-44, +12.84 units). They begin a three-game
set at Busch Stadium on Tuesday, and Game 2 will be shown Wednesday
night (8:00 PM ET) on ESPN.
Bet on baseball at Bodog and get a free 100% bonus.
Viewers will be treated to a very special pitching matchup. The
Cardinals plan on starting Michael Wacha (3.18 FIP), who has generated
8.88 units in earnings on a team record of 16-5. Only teammate Carlos
Martinez (13.37 units) has been more profitable at press time.
Pittsburgh will start Gerrit Cole (2.69 FIP), who’s pitched even better
than Wacha; the Pirates are 16-6 (+8.02 units) behind their ace.
No surprise that the under has been the right choice with either of
these pitchers on the mound: 11-9-1 for Wacha, and 12-8-2 for Cole.
Scoring will be even harder to come by with Cardinals left fielder Matt
Holliday (.830 OPS) on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right
quad and uncertain to return before the playoffs.

College Basketball Odds: Virginia Seeks Redemption Versus Louisville
The Virginia Cavaliers (20-1 SU, 13-6 ATS) have lost their undefeated
status after dropping a 69-63 decision to Duke (+5.5 away) last week.
But the Cavs are still in first place in the Atlantic Coast Conference
as we go to press, and this Saturday, they’ll try to fortify their
position when the Louisville Cardinals (19-3 SU, 8-12 ATS) visit the
John Paul Jones Arena. Tip-off is at 7:00 PM ET on ESPN.
Bet on college basketball at Bovada and get a free 50% bonus.
Only one game separates Virginia and Louisville in the ACC standings,
but as you can tell by their ATS records, the “true” gap between the two
teams is bigger than it may appear. Ken Pomeroy’s advanced stats have
the Cavaliers ranked No. 2 overall (No. 6 offense, No. 3 defense) in
Division I, while the Cardinals are ranked No. 10 (No. 46 offense, No. 6
defense).
The Cavs have already bounced back from that Duke loss with Monday’s
impressive 75-64 win over the North Carolina Tar Heels (+1 at home).
This is the same Tar Heels team that beat the Cards in January, and
nearly beat them again last week before falling 78-68 in overtime as a
5-point road underdog.

NHL Odds: Wings Ahead of Avs in Standings, Behind in Bankroll
The Detroit Red Wings may be near the top of the NHL standings at
29-12-2-7, but they’re having a hard time beating the puck line at 24-26
ATS (minus-3.68 units). Compare and contrast to Detroit’s former
Western Conference rivals, the Colorado Avalanche. Although they’re
outside of the playoff picture right now at 21-18-7-4, the Avs are
making money hand-over-fist at 31-19 ATS (plus-9.19 units). Conveniently
enough, these two teams clash Thursday night in Denver at 9:00 PM ET on
NBCSN.
Bet on hockey at Bodog and get a free 100% bonus.
Detroit is doing quite well at both ends of the ice, ranking seventh
overall in both goals for (2.94) and against (2.44) per game. However,
the Wings haven’t covered enough at –1.5. Colorado, on the other hand,
is 23rd in goals for (2.50) and 20th in goals against (2.74), and
getting paid handsomely at +1.5.
The timing might be right for the Avalanche to put one over on Detroit,
too. The Wings are without starting goalie Jimmy Howard (.920 save
percentage) because of a groin injury, leaving Petr Mrazek (.907 save
percentage) to do the heavy lifting. Mrazek is 7-2 since taking over
between the pipes, but four of those wins were by a single goal.

NBA Odds: Odds Released for Three-Point Shootout and Dunk Competitions
While sports fans and the NBA betting community debate about the
recently named All-Star Game rosters, Bovada has been releasing odds for
both the Slam Dunk and Three-Point Shootout contests, giving hoops
aficionados all new basketball odds to consider this month.
Bet on basketball at Bovada and get a free 50% bonus.
It’s one thing to bet on the NBA during the regular season, but it’s
something else entirely to predict the result of an artistic display
like the dunk competition. High-flying rookie Zach LaVine has the -110
advantage for good reason, but there’s no guarantee that his athleticism
will be enough to appease the panel.Dark horse candidate Victor Oladipo
is only +300 on the moneyline for the competition. But if his
competition portfolio is anything like his in-game portfolio, the rest
of the contestants better be careful.
The other candidates, Giannis Antetokounmpo (+225) and Mason Plumlee
(+700), will have to shed the preconceptions of big men struggling in
slam dunk contests. They’re both capable of making noise in NBA arenas,
but the creative environment of a competition is a different story.
If you’re looking for a more objective competition, check out the odds
for the Three-Point Shootout competition. Although Stephen Curry (+225)
is a popular favorite, it seems equally plausible that anybody in the
contest could walk away victorious.

Tennis Odds: Murray Looking To Rebound at Rotterdam
Andy Murray was hoping to come away with his first ever Australian
Open title. Instead, he lost to Novak Djokovic – again – in the final
Down Under and will now try to get back to his winning ways at
Rotterdam.
Bet on tennis at Bovada and get a free 50% bonus.
Close, but no cigar. That’s been the story of Murray’s career at the
Australian Open. On February 1, he lost to Djokovic in the Aussie Open
final for the third time but overall, that was his fourth loss in the
final. For his career, he’s now 8-16 versus Djokovic.
Murray will try to regroup at Rotterdam at the 2015 ABN AMRO World
Tennis Tournament next week, an event he’s conquered once previously.
Back in 2009, he topped Rafael Nadal in the final to earn his 11th
career title. However, he lost in the quarter-final last year to Marin
Cilic. Cilic is back, as is defending champ Tomas Berdych in what should
be a fairly challenging field. Stan Wawrinka, Milos Raonic, Jo-Wilfried
Tsonga and Ernests Gulbis have also confirmed for the hard court
tournament in Netherlands and the action gets underway on February 9.
